Institute For STEM Education After-School Scholarships

CSU East Bay’s Institute for STEM Education, in partnership with the YMCA of the East Bay, is establishing four, $4,000 STEM After-School Scholarships to students who are interested in elementary school science and math education. The Scholars are required to participate in training sessions on the CSUEB campus, and volunteer weekly with an elementary after-school site in Richmond, California. There will be a mandatory initial training on November 1 with some follow-up sessions on campus; regular volunteer schedule will be from February through May. Note that the hours spent in Richmond will be between 2pm and 6pm and Scholars are responsible for their own transportation to the site. SAS Scholars will be paired with a YMCA staff member to lead STEM activities with after-school program participants and will participate in professional development activities on campus.
To qualify for this Opportunity applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a full-time student
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Complete a 500 word essay describing how you will benefit from the experience of a paid internship in STEM education

-Awards will be disbursed evenly on the following dates: December 1st, March 1st, April 1st, May 1st, June 1st
